Born and raised around Medina, Ohio, Johnna Miska is a contemporary figurative artist that works in fiber, fabric, oil paint, and assorted unconventional materials. Using expressive, yet realistic imagery in her figures, Miska explores psychological themes that stem from personal experiences, but seek to educate and enlighten a public audience. Her current work highlights the modern power and potential of craft through needlework, most notably dry needle felting and embroidery, addressing its role in feminism and mental health.
Miska graduated from Ohio University in 2016 with a BFA in Painting + Drawing. Johnna also received her MA in Counseling: Art Therapy in 2020 from Adler University in Chicago. She is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and a Registered Art Therapist (ATR-P), and is currently working in Beachwood as an Art Therapist and Mental Health Professional.
